Speakers with a "cosiness factor"

Claus Riepe played our nuBoxx B-70 for issue #178 of OKEY - the magazine for keyboards, organs, digital pianos and synthesisers - to test whether his slim and cosy, elegant test candidate also has a convincing sound. The passive loudspeakers were powered by a nuConnect ampX.

His conclusion: „Wer wohnzimmertaugliche Lautsprecher für seine Tasteninstrumente oder auch als Abhöre am Studio-Rechner sucht, der war beim deutschen Boxen-Hersteller Nubert schon immer an einer guten Adresse. Die aktuellen nuBoxx Topmodelle B-70 zählen bei Nubert zwar zur Einstiegsklasse in die eigene Markenwelt. Aber dafür klingen sie schon sehr erwachsen! Satte, konturierte Bässe, die bis tief in den Keller reichen, sehr präsente Mitten und fein auflösende Höhen, gute Raumabbildung und ein edles Äußeres - mehr kann man eigentlich nicht von einem Lautsprecher erwarten. Einen Verstärker braucht man, denn die Boxen sind passiv. Das muss nicht einer von Nubert sein, aber in dem kleinen, aber umfassend ausgestatteten hauseigenen ampX finden die B-70 einen kongenialen Partner, mit dem man auch gleich die Frage einer neuen HiFi-Anlage überzeugend beantworten kann. Das Gesamtpaket ist jeden Euro wert, den man dafür bei Nubert auf den Tisch legen muss.“

Nubert's current top-of-the-range nuBoxx B-70 models belong to the entry-level class in its own brand world. But they sound very mature! Rich, contoured bass that reaches deep into the basement, very present mids and finely resolving highs, good room imaging and an elegant appearance - you can't really expect more from a loudspeaker. You need an amplifier because the speakers are passive. It doesn't have to be one from Nubert, but in the small but comprehensively equipped in-house ampX, the B-70 finds a congenial partner with which you can also convincingly answer the question of a new hi-fi system. The overall package is worth every euro you have to put on the table with Nubert.]
