What are active speakers?

Active speakers are essentially a 2-in-1 solution in which an amplifier is already built in. Consequently, you do not need a separate device that has to be connected in between. Instead, your models have various connections directly on them for your television, CD player or console. Some active speakers support Bluetooth, allowing you to conveniently stream your music from your laptop or smartphone.

• Floorstanding speakers: Active floorstanding speakers make optimal use of their shape. Unlike other devices, they have a larger volume, which has a positive effect on the listening experience. In addition, more drivers are usually installed, allowing all frequencies to be reproduced.
• Soundbars: Soundbars are being used increasingly often, especially by film lovers. The slim models are active speakers for the TV and provide a first-class sound experience. Do not be deceived by their size.

The right location for your active speakers

For a speaker to reach its full potential, it needs the right location. Even a high-end model is of little use for your enjoyment of music if you bury it between pieces of furniture or position it at an unsuitable height. To find the perfect location for your speakers, there are a few basic aspects you should pay attention to:

• When playing music, a so-called stereo triangle is created. The two active speakers are positioned at a 60° angle to the listener so that together they form an equilateral triangle. In this arrangement, the finest stereo sound is created. Keep this arrangement in mind when positioning your speakers.
• For an improved listening experience, position the speakers at the height of your ears Bear in mind that you usually enjoy music while sitting down.
• The distance from the wall affects sound reproduction because the walls reflect the sound waves and distribute them throughout the room. Therefore, ensure a certain distance from all walls and test the sound quality beforehand before positioning the devices permanently.

Test the positioning of your active speakers before installing them permanently in order to achieve the best sound effect. The two speakers should have the same distances from the side and rear walls so that the sound is distributed evenly.
