Grand Class
The high-end turntable combines its outstanding technology and workmanship with the finest appearance. Already a classic today.
Details
Ironless direct drive motor
Various factors can affect the sound quality of conventional analog turntables: For example, minimal tempo vibrations during rotation as well as irregular rotation (the so-called pole judder). The SL-1200G uses a newly developed direct drive motor without an iron core, which prevents cogging. The twin rotor design reduces the load on the motor bearing while maintaining a consistently high torque. In addition, minimal vibrations are reduced during rotation. These properties allow the warm, exceptionally detailed sound of an analog record to unfold.
High-precision motor control
The SL-1200G shines with a high starting torque and outstanding synchronization. This is made possible by the use of motor control technologies that were perfected during the development of Blu-ray players, as well as the switching of the drive mode depending on the current motor position.
Three-layer platter
The platter consists of a three-layer construction: a brass layer, which is firmly screwed to a die-cast aluminum layer, and a coating of a vibration-damping rubber compound on the underside. This ensures high rigidity and vibration-free rotation. This results in a smoothness and inertia that even surpasses the SP-10MK2 - the former turntable standard used by many radio stations worldwide. In addition, this platter is more than twice as heavy as the SL-1200MK5.
High-precision fine balancing
Uneven weight distribution on the turntable generates vibrations and interference signals during rotation, which impair the audio signal. For this reason, the platter of each individual device is finely balanced after assembly using special, high-precision devices. Only then does the turntable receive its "award": a sticker on the underside with the inscription "BALANCED".
Highly sensitive tonearm
The tonearm is made of lightweight magnesium with a high damping effect. Cold drawing improves the material properties and achieves the necessary precision. With the help of Technics' traditional cardanic suspension, in which the horizontal and vertical axes of rotation intersect at a central point, and precision bearings with a cut-to-size housing, a high degree of sensitivity is also achieved for the initial movement.
Four-layer chassis construction
In addition to the classic three-layer chassis construction of the SL-1210Mk5 made of die-cast aluminum, BMC and heavyweight rubber, the SL-1200G features a 10 mm thick, polished top plate made of the purest aluminum. This four-layer composite construction combines high rigidity with an outstanding feel.
High-quality connections
The gold-plated phono and earth connections made of milled brass prevent any impairment of the sound quality and make it easy to connect and disconnect cables. The metal shielding in the housing also reduces the effect of external interference.
