Speaker Cables: Subtle but an Important Detail
The moment has come – you’ve found your new speakers and are ready to enjoy improved sound. Excitedly, you arrange all your devices in the perfect spot and start connecting them. But what if the cable is too short? We offer a range of speaker cables so that this doesn’t happen and you can connect everything effortlessly.
Finding the Right Speaker Cable
Even the best speaker in the world is of little use if you can’t connect it to your amplifier or receiver. That’s why cables hold great importance – even if they appear simple. When choosing the right speaker cable, there are a few key factors to consider beforehand.
The Diameter
Not all cables are the same. One factor that affects sound quality is the diameter, which influences the volume. At Nubert, you’ll find the following sizes:
- 2 × 1.5 mm²
- 2 × 2.5 mm²
- 2 × 4.0 mm²
In general, for longer distances, you should choose a cable with a larger diameter. Over greater distances, the risk of volume loss increases if not enough watts reach the end device. For runs under 7 m, a cable with a 2.5 mm² diameter is sufficient. For longer connections, it should be at least 4.0 mm² to ensure consistent volume levels.
The Material
In addition to the right size, the material also plays an important role. You have several options to choose from. In our shop, you’ll find cables made from copper and silver-plated wires for your speakers. Both materials conduct electricity exceptionally well. In contrast, aluminum cables with copper coating are less effective due to their higher resistance.
Important Tips for Installing Your Speaker Cables
With a few simple tips, you can easily set up your new cables. Most importantly, make sure the cables are not pulled too tightly and that they run in straight lines. Bends can cause damage that affects the sound.
- Ensure that the poles are connected to the correct terminals. The positive pole goes into the red terminal. The cable end itself will have a red mark or a visible groove.
- The cables should be firmly attached to the terminals. Check the connections again after a few days.
- Be careful when removing the insulation—don’t strip off too much. Then twist the cable ends together.
Bring Order to Your Speaker Cable Chaos
Depending on the size of your home theater or sound system, you might end up with several meters of speaker cable. Good cable management not only improves the look of your setup but also helps prevent tripping hazards.
Once all your cables are connected, carefully bundle those going to the same device and secure them with a Velcro cable tie. This keeps them from tangling and allows you to remove any cable easily when needed. Thanks to the Velcro design, the ties can be reopened effortlessly.
Another option is to use cable sleeves. Simply pull them over the cables for an organized setup. They’re heat-resistant and anti-static.
